The mission of the City of Lake Helen Public Works Department is to enhance the quality of life for the public and all city departments by providing professional, cost effective public works services and to safely and efficiently manage the infrastructure with which we have been entrusted. Public Works is responsible for the infrastructure, maintenance, and construction activities in our City’s public right-of-way to include:

  1. Roads & Sidewalks
  2. Parks, grounds, & buildings
  3. Storm-water management
  4. Trees
  5. Minor building repairs

The department also maintains all City-owned equipment. The Department of Public Works provides a variety of services to the public and to other City departments.

Sewer

The City of Lake Helen does not have sewer facilities. Septic Permits are issued by the Volusia County Health Department. Their offices and service areas are indicated on the Volusia County Website.

Streets

The Street Maintenance primary focus is the maintenance of the City’s transportation assets. Year-round activities include a sign maintenance and installation, right of way mowing, gravel street work, pot-hole filling, downed trees, and community event support. City staff coordinates with Public Works for seasonal activities.

Parks

The Public Works Department is also responsible for maintaining Lake Helen city parks and strives to offer our community and visitors a park system that is safe, accessible, and facilitates a healthy and happy quality of life.
